Un studiu al ONG-ului conservator american „Judicial Watch”, realizat în septembrie și prezentat la mijlocul lui octombrie, avertiza că în 353 comitate („counties”), din 29 de state americane, existau rate de înregistrare a alegătorilor mai mari de 100%.
În total, este vorba de un plus de 1,8 milioane de alegători înregistrați.
Cele mai multe astfel de situații se regăseau în 8 state, în care ratele de înregistrare depășeau 100%, la nivelul întregului stat: Alaska, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Rhode Island și Vermont.
Studiul s-a bazat pe datele de înregistrare postate online de către statele respective.
„Judicial Watch” se bazează pe studiile sale pentru a avertiza statele că nu respectă cerințele Legii naționale privind înregistrarea alegătorilor, adoptată în 1993, care impune statelor să depună eforturi rezonabile pentru a-și curăța listele electorale.
La începutul lunii octombrie a.c., „Judicial Watch” a dat în judecată Colorado pentru nerespectarea Legii naționale privind înregistrarea alegătorilor.
În studiul acestui ONG conservator, 42 de comitate din Colorado - respectiv două treimi din totalul lor- au înregistrat rate de înregistrare de peste 100%.
De asemenea, la începutul anului în curs, „Judicial Watch” a dat în judecată Pennsylvania și Carolina de Nord pentru că nu a depus eforturi rezonabile pentru a elimina alegătorii neeligibili din listele lor, conform cerințelor legii federale.
Cele două state au aproape 2 milioane de nume inactive pe listele de înregistrare a alegătorilor.
Statul Illinois a fost acționat în instanță pentru că a refuzat să dezvăluie datele listelor electorale, încălcând legea federală.
„Studiul nostru a numărat 1,8 milioane de votanți în exces sau <<fantomă>> în 353 de comitate din 29 de state”, a declarat președintele Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton. „Listele de vot murdare pot însemna alegeri murdare”, a spus el.
